Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several tree species from the genus Cinnamomum. Cinnamon is used mainly as an aromatic condiment and flavouring additive in a wide variety of cuisines, sweet and savoury dishes, breakfast cereals, snackfoods, tea and traditional foods.
We source Tanzania cinnamon from the Tanga region in the north-east as well as the islands of Zanzibar. We also have farmers in Lushoto as well as Muheza along the coast. Most of the producers are small-scale growers. On our part, we draw contracts with only sources with less than 2 acres of land that they maintain under organic means including the use of cow dung manure as fertilizer. We also advise our family growers to use chemical sprays responsibly.
